I have been aware of a behavior of mine for a while now. I get in a group of people or work situation and, many times, half way through, I start ramping up my energy, and I start entertaining, and sort of creating my own world within the situation. What I’ve learned is that under my happy facade, red flags were flying, and I thought I couldn’t do anything about them at the time.
So, people are either lying or posing or distracting from the purpose of the setting. And here I am sensing things are off-track, and I’m not sure what to do. More importantly, I do know what to do, but don’t like the consequences if I take action.
And how does this apply to weight loss, you ask? Everything we do, or don’t do, causes a response inside us. If we respond inside the bounds of our core ethics, our mind and body and spirit move us into a good place. However, we many times do what’s easy, non-confrontational, and politically-correct. That response brings about discord in our mind, body, and spirit, and pits us against ourselves.
My trick is to pay attention right there on the spot and act accordingly and assist in getting the situation back to a positive and respectful and successful place. I want to be a shepherd, not a sheep. I no longer need to be run over with people’s selfish energy-mongering, and childish distractions. I choose to listen and act when my insides are tugging at me.
Try when you’re feeling uncomfortable in any situation, this little trick…
Stop, mentally step back, and NOTICE what’s bugging you. Breathe a few breaths, let the simplest answer come, and then TAKE that action. Afterward, you will feel strangely at peace. And at peace is where we will all find our healthier happier body.
